My name is Alex Starting with creating go and I'm the founder co creator of to six figure blogs both avocado calm and create and go.co and today we're going to be talking all about what is a blog and the differences between a blog and a website I think if you're new to blogging you'll find this information Very interesting so a little life update from us Lauren and I just got back from living A month out in Portugal we are out living and live done and it was absolutely specked out Actually we're out there with a group called the Wi Fi tribe they're a group of colon coworkers and CO partying co having fun entrepreneurs that kind of group together and visit different places around the world Portugal itself was absolutely spectacular is just so so beautiful and I might just show you guys some clips in this little segment specifically the beaches We're just amazing I mean they had everything from the blue greens to the white sandy beaches to just these amazing cliffs and amazing rocks it was really spectacular Killer Lisbon it's The city was very beautiful Porto, we got out there and we actually got to see some of the Red Bull Air Races, which is really cool. We We didn't mean to do that. But Porto is also beautiful, just the country as a whole, really spectacular. Portugal is also known for their coffee and for their custards, so we had too much coffee and too much custards. But we're happy now to kind of be back in the States and be working on sort of the next steps of creating go in the next steps with our online business. But for those of you here, right now, you're probably more interested in hey, I need to get to the information of what actually is a blog, and what's the difference between a blog and website so let's get right into it.
Alright guys, let's talk about what is a blog how it works and the difference between a blog and a website. If you're kind of confused about this as a whole. Then you are right in the same place that Lauren and I were two years ago, we honestly didn't know what the difference between a website or a blog was but despite our confusion, we were eager to get started and we're eager to make money. We saw that bloggers online, we're making a lot of income. We're interested in quitting our jobs and making that kind of income. And that's where we started. Kind of Fast forward to today. Lauren, I've built two six figure blogs, combining making over $50,000 a month. It's crazy, but it's a true story and many people will now leave and call us expert bloggers and I don't know when that happened I don't know if I ever feel like I am an expert blogger but I do feel like I'm going to be able to give you a very solid and tan bingeable definition of what is a blog and how does it work
what is a blog the boring definition of what is a blog Here's sort of a regularly updated page website oh by the way if you don't know this is one of our blogs create In go CO and that's where this article is posted anyway a regular Our updated page or website you easier way to understand it is that this is a blog Create and go.co is a blog When you're reading any of the posts on this website In the written content it is a blog The blog itself is what holds the continent Sorry the blog itself is what holds the content In the blog post what you're reading and in our case In our blog is the part of the entire Your website as a whole this is why sometimes websites are referred to as blogs I'm going to clear kind of all of this up here And the next step because the question you're probably asking you Okay, what's the difference between a blog and a website? Well, I'm more of a visual learner myself. So let me give you some examples. There are three kind of categories that websites fall under with blogging. And this is where the confusion comes up. And I'm going to separate those into three categories for you.
The first is that the website is a blog.
The second is the website has a blog. And the third is that the website is just a website, it's easier to look at it from the framework of what the website is. So let's dive into a little more detail on each one and explain the differences. The first is that the website is a blog. If you're on creating go ko right now following this, then you are on a blog. Or you can also check out our other blog, which is avocado.com. That is our other six figure blog that we have. It's primarily a blog because it is created and centered around updated content and blog posts. That's why we refer to these websites as blogs, because it's all centered around the content that we create. Here's some of the names that you could classify these websites as you would call it a blog. You can call it a website, or you can call it an authority niche or website. This is something that you probably won't have heard yet if you're typing in what is a blog and finding this post. But this is more of an internet marketing term that you We'll hear sort of later on other examples of websites that our primary content is a blog or blog posts or like something like the Huffington Post or BuzzFeed these are both examples of places that would mainly be considered a blog, almost like a media outlet, because it's the primary content that they post BuzzFeed as well, while they might call themselves a business, or are some other things, they are technically a blog, because blog posts remain their primary content. Now, if they call themselves a website or a publisher, that's plenty fine to understand. But they they are still technically a blog. Alright, so that's the case when the website is a blog. Right? So these websites are a blog. It's their primary piece of content. Here's another scenario. And that's the website has a blog. I think this is why so many people get confused about what is a blog and what isn't. And this is sample the website has a blog and uses it but the primary content are not blog posts This is the case For most websites As a blog is a good way to drive traffic and potential customers to a website but it's not the primary thing websites centered around an easy win See this is the email Marketing Service that We use is convert And these guys are good sample now These this is their main way Beside okay good I'm not logged in and This main website has a lot of different things It's actually a soft Where that you can put Purchase it's for me Email Marketing. That's something for when you're further down your blogging journey that we talked about. But this is they do have a blog with the website, meaning that they do publish updated content from time to time. That being said, the website has a blog with regularly updated posts, and it's important part of their business. But remember, the blog section is not the primary content or the primary purpose of the website. Again, when you go to the homepage of avocado, our other website, you see that our primary thing or the blog posts that we are publishing that in the future products that we sell so Oh that's why their primary purpose is an email marketing software. And in this case, people that ConvertKit, they're not going to say that they have a blog, they're going to say they have a website, or a software or a business. These are the terms that they're going to use to describe what they do. They would never refer to themselves as blogging or being bloggers. Another example that I talked about earlier is the Wi Fi tribe, cow, these guys to also have a blog, and we've actually been featured on it. But they more have a website and a business, they're not going to call their business a blog, because it's just something they do that sort of a part of the whole and not is the whole, I hope that makes some sort of sense. Again, these are all kind of these are judgment calls, right? People will call their website, whatever they want to call their website. But at the end of the day, it's centered around the primary purpose of the website. Now, the final case is that the website is just a website, an example. This would be something like canva.com, where they don't even have a blog, but it's just a website and this is a cool website that is is a cool way to edit your photos. This is a standalone website with no blog that we use to create and edit our images. More examples of websites like these are going to be things like apartment complexes. local real estate brokers platforms like YouTube or Facebook these are just going to be considered websites If you're continuing on the strain of questioning you're
on what is a blog you might think well What content do you blog about it's really anything you want and contrary to popular belief blogs are not Just an online diary about your thoughts. I think when most people think about starting a blog, that's what they're thinking about. And that's sort of part of the coolness of blogging is you can blog about whatever your heart desires. It can be company updates. It can be a product you like it can be a workout you recommend to your friend or sort of our you can use it as a creative outlet to practice your writing a way to meet others and connect. They're just infinite ways and infinite things that you can blog about. It's It's really all up to you basically anything you can think of blog posts themselves are good Clearly open to you Your creativity now here's the one thing that we would say is that if you want to make money blogging you definitely can and there's certain types of content that you should should be writing If you're interested in that you should check out on our blog posts are what to blog about and this is sort of under the framework of those You who are interested in making an income blogging Now Weiss Start a blog would be kind of the final question that we'd have here I can't speak for all bloggers but blogging has forever changed Lauren and I's life you saw we got to go to Portugal but you know you can make just a little bit of money blogging you can make up to you know you could just make $200 per month blogging, like as a part time business. I mean, that's gas that's groceries. That's a lot of expenses that can get paid just as a small income from blogging, you can make serious income blogging, we now make over $50,000 per month blogging, that's real income. We get to travel the world and we've gotten to quit our nine to five jobs because of blogging. Another cool thing about blogging is that blogging is allowed Lauren and I more free time to explore our passions and hobbies. We get to wake up and work when we want, create the things we want and we truly get to enjoy it. The final reason why I tell people to start a blog is that it's a challenge. Challenges are good thing for you, your happiness and your growth as a person and blogging and succeeding as a blogger is a challenge. It's not unless you're just doing it purely as a creative outlook outlet and you're not worried about anybody reading or anything like that. But it can be challenging, it can be frustrating at times and and those things are good because they help you grow.
